2007 State Fair of West Virginia

From Barnyard to BreakfastThe 2007 State Fair of WV has ended, but not before the Monroe County FFA won 49 ribbons and 2 Best of Show rosettes! The chapter successfully competed in the Cecil Underwood Youth Building with exhibits in Agricultural Mechanics, Crops and Produce, and Educational Exhibits.
In the Agricultural Mechanics department, the chapter entered two items that were completed as cooperative projects among chapter members. The hay wagon took home a second place ribbon and the electronic quiz board won a first place ribbon.
Chad Parker placed 1st with a blue ribbon on his 2-wheel utility trailer and 2nd with a red ribbon on a livestock gate.
Andy Tomlinson entered a custom-made spare tire carrier to be mounted on a pickup truck. Andy won a 1st place blue ribbon on the tire rack. Also bringing home a 1st place blue ribbon was the bale spear created by Arron Cayton and Zack Mann.
The educational exhibit by Monroe County FFA featured a theme of "From Barnyard To Breakfast". A turntable depicted a barnyard scene, complete with a hog, rooster, and a nest of brown eggs. As the turntable spun, viewers saw a complete breakfast setting with a plate of ham, bacon, eggs, and toast. Farm sound effects, including a crowing rooster, clucking hens, grunting hogs, and mooing cattle, attracted viewers to the display. The exhibit won 1st place.
Production agriculture exhibits; field crops, garden produce, herbs, and eggs, were entered by Barry Miller, Vanessa Wallace, Tracy Boggs, Tamara Atkins, Katie Spangler, and Seth Brown. Together, the group took home 15 first place blue ribbons, 7 second place red ribbons, 5 third place white ribbons, 11 fourth place pink ribbons, 4 fifth place yellow ribbons, and 1 sixth place green ribbons. Top placings also include premiums ranging from $7.00 for first place to $3.00 per ribbon.
Monroe County and the FFA Chapter can be proud of the efforts of these young agriculturalists.
